James Boler: Founder of Mamba Trail Runners
James Boler grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and has always embraced an adventurous, outdoor lifestyle. A natural athlete, he played a variety of sports growing up, eventually excelling in baseball and competitive softball after college. After retiring from travel ball, James began searching for a new challenge—and found it in the St. Jude Half Marathon in Memphis. Despite having no background in running, he was confident he could complete the race with minimal training. That bold step marked the beginning of his running journey, roughly five years ago.
Since then, James has completed numerous races, including a 200-miler and ten 100-mile ultramarathons—testaments to his relentless drive and endurance.
In the spring of 2023, James took his passion a step further by founding Mamba Trail Runners and launching Memphis’s first-ever 100-mile race, the Mamba 100. His vision, passion, and meticulous attention to detail made the event a tremendous success in its inaugural year. Reflecting on the experience,
James said,
“I’ve run several 100-milers and even a 200-miler, so I know exactly what runners go through during those kinds of races. I have a huge responsibility to help them finish, achieve their goals, and have the best race experience possible.”
James continues to build Mamba Trail Runners—not just as another local running group, but as a national community of trail runners who come together for epic race experiences. His mission is to create events that challenge, inspire, and unite runners from all walks of life.
